Eikefet Tunnels and Shafts

The project aims to build a new underground crusher system within the existing quarry of Eikefet Aggregates in Vikanes municipality. It includes the construction of two underground caverns to house a crusher and a temporary rock deposit with span up to 25 m and height up to 50 m and correlated access tunnels and tunnels for conveyor belts to bring crushed rock to the external silos, for a total tunnels length of more than 1 km. The new facility includes also a vertical shaft more than 100 m high to let rock extracted by the quarry fall down to the crusher inside the mountain.

Arx is involved as designer for all tunnels and caverns, including rockfall protection at the portal area and tunnel alignments and as geological consultant for the construction phase.
