The Project
This new 17 km tunnel will be situated 40 meters east of the existing one and primarily excavated using a TBM with a diameter of 12,4 m. The project includes the construction of a 5 km South Access Tunnel with a shielded TBM of 7,4 m diameter, and the excavation of lo-gistic works using explosives for a 300 m section with a cross-section of 180 M2. Additionally, 7,5 million t of excavated material will be repurposed for concrete aggregates, Airolo roofing, and the renaturation of the Reuss delta in Canton Uri.
