The Project
The Port of Paita is one of Peru’s main seaports and plays a crucial role in the country’s commercial activities. It functions as an important gateway for the export and import of goods, facilitating trade connections with various international destinations. The Port has undergone an expansion to improve its capacity and optimize its efficiency. The expansion saw the construction of new wharves to accommodate larger ships and an improvement of the cargo handling areas.
From the Andes to the ocean waves
The economy of a region, in the era of globalization, depends on its efficiency in receiving the products it needs and exporting those it makes. This is why port facilities play a strategic role, especially if one lives in a country that is largely bordered by territories with little infrastructure, such as the Andes and the Amazon, and instead has the Pacific as its gateway to the world. The modernization of the port of Paita, the second largest in Peru in terms of container movement, has made the economy of the entire region more dynamic. The modernization works, including the new container pier, were inaugurated in October 2014, and made it possible to triple the terminal’s performance, reaching up to 70 containers per hour/ship. As a result, Paita has become one of the top 50 ports in the American sub-continent.

The second port in Peru in terms of container movement, Paita mobilizes import and export containers and general cargo. The challenge of designing all 3 extension phases was addressed by a simple honesty which goes straight to the essence of the physical characteristics of the materials under consideration of acting forces such as gravity, temperature, earthquake, mooring and berthing loads.
