The Project
The project involved the expansion of Pier F and the construction of the Central Terminal Building EF at Stockholm Arlanda Airport to enhance passenger circulation, operational efficiency, and connectivity between terminals.
The development introduced a five-level pier structure serving both Schengen and non-Schengen operations, integrating lounges, retail, and transfer facilities. The Central Building EF connects Pier F to Terminal 5 through a multi-level interchange including baggage handling systems, customs, and arrivals areas on the lower floors, and departures, security, and commercial spaces above.
Its lightweight suspended steel structure and double-glazed façade provide natural light, acoustic protection, and passive climate control through a system of seasonal dampers for energy efficiency.
The design emphasizes clarity, transparency, and Nordic architectural expression, earning the Kaspar Salin Prize for architectural excellence.
