The Project

As part of the new concession agreement for Sofia International Airport, the project involved developing an initial master plan and concept design for a new terminal and expanding existing infrastructure. The objective was to define a long-term development strategy integrating traffic forecasts, terminal redevelopment, and sustainability measures to increase capacity from 7.1 million passengers in 2019 to 17.1 million by 2055, with a EUR 600 million investment.

The scope included traffic and capacity planning over 35 years, terminal concept design, and redevelopment of existing facilities focusing on passenger flows, processing areas, commercial spaces, and operational zones. Infrastructure planning covered airside and landside developments, including apron expansion, taxiway optimization, and transport links. Sustainability measures incorporated energy-efficient solutions and green building standards, while investment planning included CAPEX/OPEX assessments and phased implementation scheduling.
