The Project
The assignment established a long-term strategic framework for Hamburg Airport, defining capacity enhancement and infrastructure modernization objectives. It comprised a detailed assessment of airside and landside systems, identification of operational constraints, and development of adaptive, data-driven growth strategies.
The process was built around iterative strategy development—an adaptive, stakeholder-driven framework rather than a static master plan—enabling the airport to integrate evolving traffic demands, sustainability targets, and regulatory requirements.
Workstreams included strategic planning and capacity analysis, such as the evaluation of the existing master plan, development of long-term growth scenarios, and coordination of stakeholder workshops involving airlines, authorities, and airport management.
The airside and landside development component covered the optimization of taxiways, aprons, and manoeuvring areas; the planning of a new cargo handling and maintenance zone; and the conceptual design of an airport city integrating offices and parking facilities.
