The Project

This airport features a single 3’500-meter runway, which allows it to accommodate long-haul flights and large aircraft. The expanded capacity of the airport was intended to support growing air travel demands in the region. ARX designed aeronautical infrastructure to support the cargo terminal, the maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) hangar, and the hangar’s concrete slab internal paving.

Where planes and the economy take off

The Blaise Diagne International Airport is Dakar’s gateway to the world. Those traveling to other major African cities, Europe, the Middle East, and America take off from its 3’500-meter runway; those investing in Senegal use it to enter the country. In recent years, the growth of the Senegalese economy has necessitated greater international connection. Together with the Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal is one of the most dynamic of the French speaking countries in the sub-Saharan area, and its development depends on the quality of its infrastructure. The airport is located 43 kilometers east of the city center and is named after the first West African citizen elected to the French parliament in 1914. The airport has been in operation since 2017, when it replaced the historic Léopold Sédar Senghor airport.

The development of the MRO hangar’s infrastructures at Dakar Airport is a cornerstone project for me, symbolizing a major step forward in enhancing the aviation infrastructure in West Africa

It represents our commitment to boosting regional economic growth, improving safety, and fostering aviation within the community. This initiative not only sets Dakar on the map as a key aviation hub but also underscores the vital role of aviation in connecting cultures and supporting economic development. I am proud to contribute to a project that promises to elevate the industry and benefit the region as a whole.
